Ingredients

  • 2 cups vegetable broth* * You can substitute with chicken broth for a richer flavor.
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp fish sauce optional
  • 1 green onion thinly sliced (white and green parts separated)
  • 10 frozen dumplings** ** Use any variety of dumplings, such as vegetable, chicken, or pork.
  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach*** *** Baby spinach works well, but other greens like bok choy or kale can be used.

Optional Garnishes

  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp Sichuan chili crisp

Instructions

Build the Broth

  • In a medium pot, combine 2 cups of vegetable broth, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame oil, and the white parts of the sliced green onion. If desired, add 1/4 teaspoon of fish sauce for extra depth of flavor. Additional ingredients like pre-cooked proteins or hearty vegetables can also be included at this stage.

Bring to a Boil

  • Heat the mixture over medium-high heat until it reaches a rolling boil.

Cook the Dumplings

  • Add 10 frozen dumplings to the boiling broth. Cover the pot and allow the soup to return to a boil. Cook for about 2 minutes, or follow the package instructions, until the dumplings are tender and cooked through.

Add Final Ingredients

  • Turn off the heat and stir in the green parts of the sliced green onion and 1/2 cup of fresh spinach, letting them wilt gently in the hot broth.

Serve and Customize

  • Divide the soup into bowls and garnish with sesame seeds, Sichuan chili crisp, or any additional toppings of your choice. Enjoy this warm and delicious dumpling soup!
